Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The Grey Nuns Hospital NICU cares for around 1,500 babies each year who need additional care and support in their first hours to weeks of life. Families are an integral part of their baby's care team, and we work with them every step of the way in their baby's journey home.

The Obstetrics Department at the Grey Nuns Community Hospital cares for mothers and babies before, during and after birth. Care is offered on both an inpatient and outpatient basis by obstetricians, family practitioners, anaesthetists, neonatologists and pediatricians.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that occurs during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Between 3 – 20% of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes, depending on their risk factors. 

In most cases women with gestational diabetes did not have diabetes before their pregnancy; however after giving birth, the diabetes usually goes away.
